This website is available for sale – if you are interested please contact Alison below.
I’ve been a massage therapist since 1995, and taught professional massage therapy qualifications over the years. Knowing how beneficial massage is to grown ups, it’s such a pleasure to share these wonderful skills and routines with mums and dads and carers so they can massage their own babies. Since 2010, I’ve delivered the Baby Massage course in NHS settings, community centres, parents homes and my home in Corstorphine.
My children love massage, especially my 6 year old daughter who it helped tremendously as she suffered from trapped wind and colic as a baby. My very active 4 year old sons’ favourites are having his face, feet and legs massaged – especially when we bring in the names of the cartoon characters he likes. He especially loves the massage nursery rhymes that accompany the baby massage routine – its the only time he actually stays still! Oh, and my doggies love it too! The IAIM baby massage course for newborns to crawlers take place in my Corstorphine home (next to The Corstorphine Pram Centre and 10 minute walk from yummy Mimi’s Bakehouse Corstorphine) or at your home. e.g. NCT group, ante-natal groups, breast feeding groups & twins.
Five week Baby Massage Course
The course is entirely baby led so your focus is always on your baby and his/her needs. Its perfectly normal for your baby to have massage when ready to receive massage as its normal for your baby to cry, feed, be comforted, sleep or have nappies changed during the sessions. I demonstrate the routine on a baby massage doll and have spares available if your baby is having sleepy time. You’ll always get a chance to practice the routine in class either on one of the demonstration dolls and if there’s time when your baby wakes up. Sessions last approximately 60-90 minutes including massage, chat about post natal topics, hand-outs and refreshments. If for any reason you have to miss a session you will always be able to catch up at the next one. Massage isn’t just for babies and we talk about adapting the routine for the growing child.
Parents who attend the International Association of Infant Massage (“IAIM”) course learn so much more than just a massage routine. The course is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives. The comprehensive course covers touch, movement, relaxation, interaction and communication and most of all its fun!
You will learn a full body massage routine for your baby, including a specific massage for the tummy to help with colic as well as yoga and reflexology techniques. Oils and hand outs (available in several languages) are provided, your bottle of oil is replenished as we go along and a certificate of attendance awarded on completion of the course.
The benefits of baby massage are:-
- Promotes better sleep
- Helps with colic and teething
- Helps build self-esteem and infant/parent bonding
- Facilitates body awareness
- Relaxing for parent/carer
- Learn about your babies needs and desires and have fun!
One to one and group courses can be scheduled for other days/times.
Alison takes immense pride in her work and looks forward to welcoming you on a course in the near future.
